What happens when a product is out-of-stock?

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

When you see an out-of-stock red button on our website, there are a couple of reasons that it is unavailable.

Reason 1. In the case of the Stiletto 2 Headphones or Sportster 5 , these items are just temporarily out-of-stock. This means that the manufacturer or distributor has not received a shipment or that we ordered too few and sold out. Using the Link below the out-of-stock button on the product page, “Click Here to Join the Notification List“, is a great way to be notified when a product is received, same day!

Reason 2. In the case of the Stiletto Home Kit SLH1 or Sirius S50 , these items have been discontinued and will not be available again. In rare instances, we may receive a small batch or refurbished items, in which case getting on the Notify List by clicking the blue link on the product page is the best way to be notified if we get them in. In some cases also we put a link in the description to a product that may act as a replacement, like the SCH1p1.

In any case get on the Notify List or Call/Email and ask to be placed on the Notify List. This is the only way you can be updated on the status of a product or given a replacement suggestion.

These are the two main reasons that you might see . But we do always ask that if you have any questions about the status of a certain product to call us or Email Me Joshua Kincaide at Josh@tss-radio.com or Sales@tss-radio.com . We will be glad to give you the status or time frame if available.

History of the SIRIUS Starmate

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

If you have ever wondered where your SIRIUS Starmate got it’s humble beginnings, then this is the guide you’ve been looking for.

 Starmate ST1

SIRIUS Starmate Line: The Starmate line was first created with the Original Starmate ST1. Cousin to the Streamer GT and Xact XTR7 , The ST1 was a simple radio that boasted a no frills, 24/7 workaholic attitude.  The design was simple and offered SIRIUS fans a contemprary look. The Starmate Line really got its glory with the invention of the SIRIUS Replay function.

Starmate Replay ST2

The Starmate 2 or Starmate Replay SIRIUS ST2 was the first Starmate Sirius Satellite Radio to included the Replay function. Cousin to the Streamer GTR, This radio took a notice from many consumer that begged for a narrower SIRIUS receiver, that did not block vision on the dash. It was designed on a unique mounting bracket system much like the ST1 Starmate mount. This receiver is one of the most loved of all by SIRIUS fans.,but SIRIUS goes universal!

With as many different receivers out there, and many consumers switching back and forth. Consumers really wanted a universal docking style, that way any receiver could fit in another car/home/motorcycle kit. This would make it easier for a consumer to replace a radio or purchase a new one if they knew that the docking cradles were all the same. So SIRIUS introduced the SIRIUS Universal Dock and Play system. This means all new receivers and cradles are cross-compatible with eachother. SIRIUS impletmented this in its Starmate 3 ST3

Starmate 3

The Starmate 3 was seen as a huge jump forward and a small step backwards. The SIRIUS ST3 did not offer the SIRIUS Replay function, but it did offer the new universal style docking system. This radio was a throwback to its grandfather the ST1 with the features it carried. The ST3 was a low production radio and saw little favor from the SIRIUS world. This remains the low point in the SIRIUS line, however all that would change with the SIRIUS Starmate 4.

Starmate 4

By far of the most loved SIRIUS radios of all time came in 2006 with the Starmate 4. This radio had all the advantages of the ST2 and ST3, with none of their disadvantages. Th ST4 still remains a top seller and with its low return rate, the ST4 will have a placed saved for the Sirius Satellite Radio muesum and Hall of Fame, which isn’t being built, but should be! The St4 has the universal dock and replay function, plus its narrow design keeps you looking at the road and not the receiver. This radio will be hard to replace, but with any high-end electronics the next one is a secret………

Be looking out for the New Starmate 5……………and the Stratus 5

The often overlooked SIRIUS Stratus

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

The Sirius Status has been the workhorse of the Sirius line-up since its creation.

It gives you the most basic of features, but with an outstanding service record and a extremely low return rate. The SIRIUS Stratus has been the economy-level Sirius Satellite Radio receiver and has proved itself with SIRIUS radio veterans. It has the most basic of features of all the SIRIUS radios out there and keeps you listening without any frills, long after the more complex devices become in need of service or repair. This isn’t to say the other radios are poorly made, I am just saying the tried and true SIRIUS Stratus holds up very well under conditions other electronics would not. Maybe call the Stratus the Ugly Duckling of SIRIUS radios or the lumberjack-quality radio, being of tough, but simple design. Whatever you call the Stratus Radios be sure that you consider them in situations you would not want to put a Stiletto or Sportster 5 (ie. a boat or snowmobile).

Also be looking out for the New Stratus 5 and Starmate 5 coming soon……….

Great SIRIUS Accessories

Monday, July 14th, 2008

If you have SIRIUS satellite radio and have a Plug and Play or Dock and Play unit, here are a few accessories and tips that will help you get the most out of your SIRIUS receiver!

First Protecting your SIRIUS Receiver:

There are several ways and products around that will help you get a long life out of your unit.

A Plug and Play carrying case

sirius carry case

Many people who have SIRIUS forget about this little beauty. This case can hold almost any SIRIUS receiver and keeps it from the wind, rain, and unfortunate drops on the pavement. This unit has a soft interior lining and a belt clip. It’s heavy-duty design is made to help the transfer from home to car and back again so smoothly. If you have SIRIUS you need this, and at $9.99 ,its a worthy investment for your precious SIRIUS receiver.

A Screen Shield

This is designed to keep your SIRIUS satellite radio from pesky scratches and nicks.  Having this military-grade screen shield can help you keep your unit safe and looking brand new.  This is a cost/effective way to make sure your invest stays looking the same as the day you bought it.  (tip: if you’ve ever put on car window tint this is almost exactly the same way)

The Static Reliever

This is a must have. No questions asked. This will relieve that annoying FM static on your car radio. This semi-permanent product can be taken from one car to the next. Some cars need an extra FM Antenna Adapter that can be found here. This little baby is good but if you are looking for something with CD quality sound check out our line of Aux-Input adapters.( see here for some install help and guides HERE)

A Clean Custom-look

A Vehicle Specific Mount or VSM is a great way to mount your SIRIUS satellite radio without having to use a suction cup or adhesive. These mounts require only simple hand tools and NO drilling of the dash. They install right onto a bolt or screw that the factory already placed. Mostly it requires just lifting on a dash piece and bolting this bracket on and replacing the dash piece. When used with a swivel found here, these can be angled to be seen from every seat in the car, truck, or Semi-Rig.

With all products that are out there finding one or two ,that will keep your SIRIUS satellite radio safe and sound, is easy and affordable. If you have any questions about your SIRIUS radio you can always email me at Josh@tss-radio.com

Thanks

SIRIUS for your Motorcycle

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Motorcycles and SIRIUS Satellite Radio are a match made in heaven. The ability to listen to a channel you love, without ever changing the station, from coast to coast is priceless. Never having to change the frequency, from town to town, means more time enjoying the ride.

There are a few different ways to put SIRIUS on your bike. I will explain the different ways from the simplest to the most custom.

The Simplest way #1

Install level= Easy

Using a universal motorcycle mount kit with a plug and play radio, this way would give you a handlebar mounted SIRIUS radio that would need to be connect to a set of speakers or headphones.

It would look a little like this:

The Next Hardest Way

Install Level= Medium

This is a step higher on the custom look chart. This way is to use a custom SIRIUS mount that uses the left clutch or right brake assembly to hold the bracket for your SIRIUS. These are available for most bikes like Honda, Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha.

It would look a little like this:

 The Hardest Way

Install Level= Hard

The reason I put this as hardest is because it requires a aftermarket stereo built-into your motorcycle. Anything along the Panasonic, Alpine, Pioneer, or Sony lines. This is the best way to get SIRIUS on your bike. It would require the installation of a SIRIUS  in-dash connect kit found here: In dash sirius. These kit would connect audio directly and give you a full in dash Custom look.

Well I hope that this small guide can shed some light on the wide world of SIRIUS on a motorcycle and can maybe help you decide with route you want to go with. Thanks.

A Stiletto Buyers Guide

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

So you’re thinking of buying a Stiletto or have already bought one. What accessories or tips do you need to get the most out of your Stiletto?

With this guide I will show you a few products and tips to help you get the most out of your investment.

First I will address the folks who have not yet purchased a Stiletto, so if you already have one please feel free to skip this section. Ok, you’re most likely looking at Stiletto’s because the are new, portable, and incredibly enjoyable, but being as there are technically three Stilettos it can be confusing as to which one is right for you.

First off we’ll look at the Stiletto 10. This unit was developed as a base model portable live Sirius radio. It has an internal memory of 10 hours and is not expandable with a memory card. The Stiletto 10 (SL10) does not support WiFi. It has been discontinued.

The Stiletto 100: Physically identical to the Stiletto 10, but offers more features including Up to 100 hours of storage (2 GB),Schedule up to 6 hour blocks of recording from SIRIUS’ Commercial Free Content, and SIRIUS Replay™—Pause, rewind and replay 44 minutes of live radio. It does have WiFi built in, with the WiFi feature, you will be able to listen SIRIUS inside any building were there is an accessible WiFi connection.

The Stiletto 2: Brand new and sleek looking the SL2 is a fan favorite. It brings all the features of the SL100 plus the ability to use a Micro-SD memory card and use both B and G WiFi. This unit is slightly small and different color, and has an internal battery rather than an external battery like the SL10/Sl100. The SL2 uses the same internal interface menus as the SL10/Sl100. It however does not use the same docks and cradles as the SL10/Sl100. If you are upgrading from the Stiletto 10/100 to the Stiletto 2 you can use the power and antenna cables from the previous car/home kit and just use the Stiletto 2 car dock or Stiletto 2 home dock.

Ok, so you have your Stiletto, now here are a few suggestions to help you protect, customize, and enhance you new toy.

Stiletto Cases:There are many cases out there for your Stiletto, Leather cases,  ruggedized cases, and Neoprene cases to name a few. Choosing one is a personal choice, based on intended use. If you’re a runner, a stiletto armband case is perfect. If you’re a professional, a sleek stiletto leather case touches your Stiletto off nicely, and for you construction workers, a stiletto ruggedized case will protect it from any accidental drops or bumps.

Stiletto Headphones: The Stiletto does come with a set of Antenna Headphones, but if you get the SL10/Sl100 you may want to upgrade to the Stiletto 2 Antenna Headphones, which are made by Altec Lansing, padded and comfortable. Also Stiletto come with standard SIRIUS earbud headphones which DO NOT have an antenna built inside. With Stiletto you can use a variety of aftermarket earbuds to get the best quality sound from you Stiletto. Headphones like the V-Moda Bass Freq headphones feature a powerful bass design that replicates the deep bass, warm mids and crisp highs of the world’s finest clubs and concert venues. Premium V-Moda Vibe Headphones have been acclaimed for superior sound and quality. We have a variety of headphone that can be found HERE

Stiletto Memory Cards: Now if you have a Stiletto 2 this is a feature exclusive to you, adding a MicroSD card like the PNY 2GB MicroSD Flash Memory Card, the PNY 1GB MicroSD Flash Memory Card, and the SanDisk 4GB MicroSD Flash Memory Card.

Stiletto Screen Protectors: You just made a SIRIUS investment( no pun intended) and you want to keep it nice and clean and free of scratches, I suggest the Sirius Stiletto 2 Screen Shield for Stiletto 2 and Sirius Stiletto 100/10 Screen Shield for Stiletto 10/100 these are applied like standard car window tint and are designed to protect you stiletto screen from any unwanted scratches and nicks.

TIPS and TRICKS for Stilettos:
Tips for both SL100/Sl2:

  • Use a Screen shield, please, you will thank me after the first time you accidentally put your Stiletto in the same pocket as your car keys, I’ve done it :(
  • Fully Shutdown the Stiletto before you remove the battery.
  • Shut down often, especially at night if not in use.
  • Update often, use the USB cable and connect it up to your computer or alternatively connect it to WiFi.
  • When 80% of internal memory is used, the Stiletto may start to glitch. The easiest fix is to clean out your recordings.
  • After you purchase a Stiletto, UPDATE IT!. It will put the newest version on you Stiletto and fix a few bugs that may have been present when you unit was purchased.
  • Use My Sirius Studio software

If you have a Stiletto 2 this is specific for you:

  • Format your MicroSD card

This is pretty much everything I can think about Stiletto that will help you the consumer be satisfied and give you a long lasting, quality product.
